Dear …………………………… MP

I am writing to you because I am deeply concerned about the flawed Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Planning System Reforms) Bill 2025.

The Bill will irresponsibly “strip away safeguards . . . to prevent corruption in relation to planning and development matters”, as asserted by Mr Anthony Wheatley, former Supreme Court judge.

Nor will it provide affordable housing for our children and essential workers.

This Bill will unacceptably remove environmental protections in a time of accelerating climate disasters and biodiversity extinction.

I urge you to vote against this draconian anti-environment and anti-democratic Bill.

Yours sincerely

Dear Premier Minns

I urge you not to proceed with the deeply flawed Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Planning System Reforms) Bill 2025:

  • It will not solve the housing crisis.  Nor will it provide affordable housing for our children and essential workers.

  • It bypasses environmental assessment & community consultation through a new Targeted Assessment Development (TAD) pathway that will intensify the biodiversity and climate crisis.

  • It weakens development standards leading to poor amenity and sense of community.

  • It ignores key environmental impacts and outrageously switches off environmental protections for threatened species to fast track development.

  • It centralises power and gives excessive power to the Planning Secretary to override independent experts in government departments, local government and the community.  It drastically reduces public consultation.

  • It increases risk of corruption and as Anthony Wheatley, former Supreme Court judge says “The Bill strips away safeguards . . . to prevent corruption in relation to planning and development matters”.

  • remove local government powers to protect their environment.

  • it will silence communities by creating a single community participation plan despite the huge differences in development needs and types across NSW.

  • removes local democracy meaning that it allows NSW to descend into autocracy.

Your government now appears to be working solely for the developers and not the interests of the community.  Your statements that it will solve the housing crisis are false.

Please do not proceed with your deeply flawed Planning Bill.

SUBJECT LINE: PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT NSW LABOR’S ‘BIG AND BEAUTIFUL’ PLANNING BILL

Date:

Dear Shadow Premier, Mr Speakman

I urge you not to support with the deeply flawed Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Planning System Reforms) Bill 2025 and use every effort to persuade the Crossbench not to support it because the Bill:

·       will not solve the housing crisis.  Nor will it provide affordable housing for our children and essential workers.

·       bypasses environmental assessment & community consultation through a new Targeted Assessment Development (TAD) pathway that will intensify the biodiversity and climate crisis.

·       weakens development standards leading to poor amenity and sense of community.

·       ignores key environmental impacts and outrageously switches off environmental protections for threatened species to fast track development.

·       centralises power and gives excessive power to the Planning Secretary to override independent experts in government departments, local government and the community.  It drastically reduces public consultation.

·       increases risk of corruption and as Anthony Wheatley, former Supreme Court judge says “The Bill strips away safeguards . . . to prevent corruption in relation to planning and development matters”.

·       removes local government powers to protect their environment.

·       will silence communities by creating a single community participation plan despite the huge differences in development needs and types across NSW.

·       removes local democracy meaning that it allows NSW to descend into autocracy.

NSW Labor now appears to be working solely for the developers and not the interests of the community.  Labor’s statements that the Bill will solve the housing crisis is incorrect.

If the NSW Parliament proceeds with this draconian anti-environment, anti-community Bill there will be an enormous backlash against it at the next election.

SUBJECT LINE: PLEASE DO NOT PROCEED WITH YOUR PLANNING BILL

Dear Planning Minister Mr Scully

I urge you not to proceed with the deeply flawed Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Planning System Reforms) Bill 2025 because it:

·       will not solve the housing crisis.  Nor will it provide affordable housing for our children and essential workers.

·       bypasses environmental assessment & community consultation through a new Targeted Assessment Development (TAD) pathway that will intensify the biodiversity and climate crisis.

·       weakens development standards leading to poor amenity, poor environmental and heritage outcomes and will have negative impacts on communities wellbeing.

·       ignores key environmental impacts and outrageously switches off environmental protections for threatened species to fast track development.

·       centralises power and gives excessive power to the Planning Secretary to override independent experts in government departments, local government and the community.  It drastically reduces public consultation.

If you proceed with this it will be clear that NSW Labor is now working solely for the developers and not the interests of the community.  Labor’s statements that the Bill will solve the housing crisis are false and misleading.

I urge you not to proceed with this draconian anti-environment, anti-community Bill as it could easily create an  enormous backlash against NSW Labor at the 2027 NSW election.

Dear Shadow Planning Minister Mr Farlow

I urge you not to support with the deeply flawed Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Planning System Reforms) Bill 2025 and use every effort to persuade the Cross Bench not to support it because it:

If NSW Labor proceeds with this Bill it will be clear that NSW Labor is now working solely for the developers and not the interests of the community.  Labor’s statements that the Bill will solve the housing crisis are false and misleading.  I urge NSW Liberals to not support the Bill.

If this draconian anti-environment, anti-community Bill is passed it will create an enormous backlash against NSW Labor (and NSW Liberals if they support it) at the 2027 NSW election.
