Why is this being allowed to happen?

Why is one of the finest and oldest Federation houses in east Gordon, at 14 Darnley Street, located on corner of Baldwin Street and Darnley Street slated for demolition without any community or heritage expertise?

Why couldn’t an INTERIM HERITAGE ORDER be placed on this house at 14 Darnley Street, Gordon to stop its demolition?

The house has recently been sold. Scaffolding went up on Monday 8 September 2025.  Demolition placards went up on Tuesday 9 September 2025. 

This is a well known historic house in East Gordon.  It is a tragedy that Ku-ring-gai Council has no powers to stop its demolition.

Ku-ring-gai Council’s reply 10 September 2025:

This demolition has been approved through a complying development certificate.

The property 14 Darnley Street, Gordon is not listed as a heritage item or within a heritage conservation area under the Ku-ring-gai LEP 2015.

There is no Council action through an Interim Heritage Order or otherwise that can remove this approval for demolition.
