2025 has been a very productive year for the Ku-ring-gai GeoRegion project that highlights Ku-ring-gai’s region for its world class geology, significant flora and fauna and cultural heritage.

With FOKE’s Steering Committee working with the National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS), and Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai and Northern Beaches councils we will soon be introducing  a additional interpretative signs and improved geotrails.

We are grateful to the Bendigo Bank who has given us another grant this year to support the production of a GeoRegion brochure for libraries and schools. The 2024 grant allowed the development of our dedicated GeoRegion website, which, we are pleased to say, has been receiving many accolades.

A revitalised West Head Geotrail has been funded by the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife, jointly with the Geological Survey of NSW, to improve and specify all important aspects for visitors regarding West Head. We anticipate this being completed by mid 2026.

We have received funding from the NSW Government jointly with Ku-ring-gai Council as part of the Community Building Partnership 2025. This will enable us to develop and install two large interpretative signs in the Wildflower Gardens for visitors and education.

SMEDG (Sydney Minerals Exploration Discussion Group) has agreed to financially support the creation of a virtual geotrail for the Ku-ring-gai GeoRegion on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The project aims to broaden public access to one of Australia’s most significant geological, ecological, and cultural landscapes.

Centred on Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, the GeoRegion features nationally significant geosites, exceptional biodiversity, and an extraordinary density of Aboriginal heritage places.
