In 2023 scientists presented evidence about the dangers of placing plastic turf on the Norman Griffith Oval, West Pymble at the Ku-ring-gai Town Hall. Regrettably Ku-ring-gai Council did not listen to this evidence and community concerns. The community then took Ku-ring-gai Council to Court in an attempt to protect the surrounding Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest and nearby Quarry Creek, surrounding the Normann Griffith Oval. Despite an excellent case, the community lost the court case. Ku-ring-gai Council has recently announced they have terminated the contract with Turf One and are now looking into other options. $7 million + has already been spent on the project to put artificial turf on Norman Griffith Oval.
